Goodwill's Career Center educational
programs are designed to meet the needs and interests of
a wide variety of students. Grade level and interest testing
is administered before orientation and is followed by two
weeks of basic career training. Here students learn about
the customer service culture, employer expectations, potential
career paths and personal effectiveness.
Following this basic course, students
may enter Work Experience Training which can lead to specific
skills training, or they receive another two weeks of Office
Skills Training where they can improve skills in English,
communication, spelling and math. Basic office machines
and an introduction to computers and the Internet are also
a part of this course.
Next students choose one of four educational
tracks leading to employment in either the hospitality industry
(HOST), business office careers (BEST),
medical clerical careers (MOST) or
the retails sales (REST) field. Each
separate track has an additional five to ten week intensive
educational component and an on-the-job internship.
Following training, graduates are assisted
in resume writing and job search activities by Goodwill's
Community Employment Specialists.
