Goodwill serves individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. The disabilities may include visual and hearing impairments; TBI; epilepsy; cerebral palsy; substance abuse, learning, developmental, orthopedic, psychiatric, or cardiac disabilities. Many participants have multiple disabilities.

Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA serves people living in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, Mingo and Wayne counties in West Virginia and Boyd, Lawrence, Martin, and Pike counties in Kentucky.

Referrals may come from a variety of sources including but not limited to the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services, Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Ohio Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Workers' Compensation, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Social Insurance, private rehabilitation providers and Work4WV Center. Self-referrals are also accepted. Informal tours are available for anyone who thinks they may be interested in training or other services.

 Goodwill offers skilled staff trained to help individuals overcome various barriers to employment and self-sufficiency. Training includes programs designed to improve academic skills, gain marketable job skills, provide work experience and improve job readiness. Each year over 600 persons with disabilities and other special needs are served in various programs.

Rehabilitation Assessment provides interviews, administration of various tests and other methods of evaluation in order to determine the educational and vocational needs and/or job placement potential of individuals referred for services. Following test interpretation, the rehabilitation counselor guides the individual through vocational exploration to assist them in determining a suitable vocational objective. A complete report of the counselor's findings is provided to the case manager of the referring agency. If training is the appropriate next step, Goodwill offers a variety of skills training or career path educational programs.

People may receive one or more service but do not necessarily need them all. However, many program participants receive more than one Goodwill service. Typically, a person who has never worked can begin a basic work readiness program, move to work experience training to skills training to employment outside Goodwill to full integration into the community. No longer dependent on Goodwill assistance, the person has achieved his or her own level of maximum independence.
