How Can I Train for a New Career?

donations Goodwill believes in life-long learning. Therefore, Goodwill's Career Center educational programs are designed to meet the needs and interests of a wide variety of students. All courses include Basic Career Training, which includes classes in employer expectations, good communication skills, job development, and career pathing.

First, all students complete six weeks of academics, including English, spelling, math, filing, proof-reading, and an introduction to the Internet.

Next, students move into one of three upper level educational tracks, depending on their interests and career goals: Hospitality, Medical Office, or Business Employment Skills Training. Each track also includes resume’ writing, job search and interviewing skills training, as well as an on-the-job internship. Successful graduates are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Goodwill accepts financial aid payment through collaboration with Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC) and some Career Center courses offer college credit from MCTC.

In addition to these courses, Goodwill also offers short-term training in Janitorial skills, Adult Basic Education, Computer Basics, and a Work Adjustment Training program to introduce individuals with little or no work experience to the world of work. It includes improving interpersonal, job readiness, and job seeking skills. Life Skills Training – how to manage money, housing and food – is often taught as part of other Career Center training programs.

Based on community needs, the Career Center also can provide classes in Windows, Excel, Word Outlook and Powerpoint. Goodwill offers Microsoft Office Exam Certification testing, as well.
