Last year, Goodwill Industries’ employees processed nearly four million individuals pieces of goods donated by YOU and others in the communities we serve, and placed them for sale in our stores. The resulting $4.8 million in revenue helped fund our counseling, education, training and employment service programs that benefit people with disabilities and other disadvantaging conditions that have kept them from being successful in the workplace.
Donations to Goodwill may be tax-deductible (consult IRS Tax Guide 526 for deduction guidelines) as Goodwill Industries is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Recent changes to IRS regulations states that all donations must be in good used condition or better in order to be tax deductible. Donors set the fair market value of their own donations.
Goodwill is local and it’s linked to a great cause. When you donate to Goodwill, you help us help others right here in the Tri-State area to build our community one job at a time. An average of 87 cents of every dollar earned from the sale of donated goods in our store locations supports our mission of providing therapy services, credit counseling, career training and employment assistance to people in our local communities.
Learn how donations become valuable community services. The web site’s Donation Impact Calculator will show consumers how donated goods become jobs, for example:
- one bicycle, one coat and one DVD provides a person with one hour of on-the-job training
- one working computer provides 5.3 hours of career counseling
- six shirts and two pairs of jeans provides one hour of a job search class
